The Psychedelic Chicks I WHERE (can we find heal) series I 2019
Variations of collage (30x42 cm), digital prints (143x189 cm) and painting (160x180 cm))
This album series is telling stories of esthetic surgery, domestic violence against women, gender and sexuality, the banishment from paradise, statement clothing, seduction of luxury, effects of global textile industry, the dream of glory and success and of drugs-drowned yearnings.
It is a tribute to Judy Chicago's and Miriam Schapiro's Feminist Art Program, founded at the California Institute of the Arts in 1971. It plays with references to the iconic exhibition and performance program 'Womenhouse', organized by feminist artists of Judy Chicagos Feminist Workshop Class, and above that it creates a suspense to today's situation of women in private and social life.
The series is based on a contribution, Madeleine Schwinge has made to the practice-based research publication 'Tacit Knowledge: Post Studio/ Feminism - CalArts 1970-77', Editor: Prof. Annette Jael Lehmann, 2019. The book was published for the exhibition 'Where Art Might Happen - The Early Years of CalArts' shown at Kestnergesellschaft Hannover (2019) and Kunsthaus Graz (2020).
